SPECIAL EVENTS WE SCHEDULE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
JESSE / JESSIE TREE:
On the first Sunday of Advent, along with the adorned Christmas tree, there is the Jesse/Jessie tree in the sanctuary. Throughout the Advent season, we collect mittens, hats, scarves, and small cuddly toys and other needed items on the tree, which are then distributed to the Sandgate Shelter for Abused Women, a charitable organization.
CHRISTMAS SUNDAY
On the Sunday before Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus with the lighting of the Christ Candle, favourite carols, and familiar scriptures. This is truly the highlight of the Christian year.
CHRISTMAS EVE CANDLELIGHT SERVICE (December 24 5:00-6:00 PM)
On Christmas Eve we gather for a service of Word, Light and Song. The glow of the candles, the telling of the Christmas story, and the singing of familiar carols, make this a very spiritual and truly special experience.
PALM SUNDAY
On the Sunday before Easter, we celebrate Jesus’ ride into Jerusalem with palm fronds.
GOOD FRIDAY
We gather at 10:00 AM for a reflective time as we hear the story of Jesus’ crucifixion.
EASTER SUNDAY
Our Easter Day worship celebrates the joys of resurrection.
MEMORIAL SUNDAY (Decoration of plots day)
Also called Cemetery Sunday, on the first Sunday in June we remember our friends and family no longer with us and celebrate the fellowship we have today. The service is enhanced with a guest speaker and special music.
THANKSGIVING SUNDAY
The Church will be decorated with the fruits of the years harvest; familiar hymns of thankfulness are the order of the day. Again, we share our bounty by bringing non-perishable food items for the local Food Bank. The congregation collects items all year for the foodbank.
ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY
On the fourth Sunday in October, we celebrate our history and heritage. Friends from the past gather and mingle with new friends which we hope will be part of our future! A guest speaker and music make this a memorable service!
REMEMBRANCE DAY
We observe Remembrance Day and Peace Sabbath (the Sunday closest to November 11) in honour of those who have given their lives for our freedom.
